The secretary-general “hopes Honduras is now on the path to the full restoration of democratic, constitutional rule”, his spokesperson Michele Montas said in a statement.
The deal between Zelaya and the de facto Honduran government was reached in Tegucigalpa Thursday night, Xinhua reported. Zelaya was ousted from power in a coup d’etat June 28.
According to media reports, the deal would allow the deposed president to return to office.
Earlier this month, Navi Pillay, the UN high commissioner for human rights, dispatched a team to Honduras on a three-week mission to look into rights violations in the wake of the June coup.
