London, Dec 7 (ANI): The British government has been announced yesterday that stores selling “sexy” children’s clothes will be fined.

Ministers are cracking down on the sale of items such as little girls’ “porn star” tops and lap-dancing kits.

Other items that include a “Future footballers wife” T-shirt and a bed branded “Lolita” - the name of a famous novel about a man’s obsession with a 12-year-old girl.

Children’s Minister Sarah Teather said she hoped they would act responsibly in the run-up to Christmas.

“There are huge pressures on children to grow up too quickly and to buy stuff, some of which is completely unsuitable,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

“When I walk down the High Street there is one shop after another marketing highly sexualised clothes to young children: short, tight dresses; T-shirts with unsuitable slogans,” she said.

A review by Reg Bailey, chief executive of Christian group the Mothers’ Union, will agree “age appropriate” marketing.

Parents will be urged to report stores breaking the new rules. They will also apply to sexy pop videos, which will be barred before 9pm.

“Confronting this issue is vital,” Katherine Rake of the Family and Parenting Institute said. (ANI)
