Prince William Melbourne, Apr 29 (ANI): Prince William has a better chance of making his marriage to Kate Middleton work than his parents ever did, reveals data from the UK statistician.

When Charles married Diana 30-years-ago, in front of an estimated TV audience of 750 million, the UK divorce rate had not yet peaked, News.com.au reported.

In 1981 there were a total of 145,713 divorces, a rate of 11.9 splits per 1000 married couples and rising to an eventual 1994 high of 14.2.

For Wills and Kate, latest stats show the total number of divorces falling in the UK for the sixth consecutive year. The divorce rate has also dropped - from 14.0 per 1000 in 2004 to 10.5 in 2009.

This is the lowest rate since 1977 when 10.3 marriages per 1000 ended in divorce.

The younger royals, she’s 29 and he’s 28, are also leaving one divorce danger zone, for the fifth consecutive year, divorce rates in the UK have been highest for men and women in their late 20s, although the average age of splitting remains 44.0 for men and 41.5 for women.

The age gap between the younger royals is also much less. Kate may be nine years older than Charles’ bride in 1981 but she is just five months older than Wills - compared to the dozen years separating his parents.

For Wills and Kate, the good money would be on checking back in 2022 to see how they’re going. The average duration of a UK marriage this century started at 10.7 years in 2000 and has remained around 11 years ever since. (ANI)
