UK dismisses reports of backing Iranian terror group
June 17th, 2010 - 5:09 pm ICT by ANILondon, June 17(ANI): The UK has dismissed reports that it supported an exiled terror group, which planned terrorist acts in Iran.
“We made clear we condemn all terrorism everywhere. The Government firmly rejects any allegation of British involvement in any such activity,” The Independent quoted an UK Foreign Office spokeswoman, as saying.
The comments came after certain media reports in Iran said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry had summoned the British Ambassador, Simon Gass, to express its harsh criticism over his country’s backing for the group.
Earlier, two members of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), who are currently under arrest and are suspected of arranging a future terrorist attack in Tehran, admitted to having planned a bombing with individuals in the UK and Sweden.
The group is accused of planning an explosion on the anniversary of the last presidential election.
The MKO, based in the Iraqi city of Ashraf, is included in the blacklist of terrorist groups by the United States and Europe. (ANI)
