Vienna, June 24 (DPA) Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel will miss Wednesday’s Euro 2008 semi-final against Germany after UEFA turned down an appeal against his two-match ban. Volkan was sent off during his side’s Group A 3-2 victory over Czech Republic for pushing Czech striker Jan Koller to the ground.
The Fenerbahce goalkeeper missed Turkey’s quarter-final victory over Croatia and was replaced by veteran goalkeeper Rustu Recber, who was also a member of the Turkey team that made it to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup.
The 35-year-old Rustu will now play against Germany in Basle when he will win his 118th cap.
