Abu Dhabi, April 8 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to compile an encyclopaedia on the date palm tree, WAM news agency reported Tuesday. The research project was announced during the launch of the Khalifa International Date Palm award Monday at the Emirates Palace and is supported by the UAE government.
The date palm is considered an important symbol of the UAE’s national identity and culture.
The encyclopaedia would have a wealth of information about the date palm tree and its important role in the UAE’s history, a government official said while making the announcement.
“The project will mark a significant cultural movement with its political, social and economic dimensions,” the official added.
