UAE lifts ban on import of Canadian cattle
September 14th, 2011 - 12:04 am ICT by IANSDubai, Sep 13 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday lifted a ban on the import of live cattle from Canada.
Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, minister of environment and water, issued a statement lifting the ban.
The statement stated that cattle import would require a valid import license issued by the ministry.
The cattle would require a certificate of origin and a veterinary certificate issued by the relevant government authorities of the country of origin. All imported cattle should be born in or after 2009, it said.
It also demanded that the authorities of the country of origin inform their UAE counterparts of any registered cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy — commonly known as mad cow disease.
