UAE grants 500,000 tonnes of wheat to SyriaJune 3rd, 2008 - 8:09 pm ICT by IANS
Abu Dhabi, June 3 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has approved 500,000 tonnes of wheat as a grant to Syria, WAM news agency reported Tuesday. The grant is aimed at helping Syria cope with the rising wheat prices in global markets, the WAM report said adding that the quantity of wheat will be procured from the international markets and shipped directly to Syria.
UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and visiting Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad Tuesday discussed cooperation in various areas and explored joint Arab action after the Arab Summit in Damascus.
Important members of both governments participated in the bilateral discussions.
