UAE, Germany discuss world issues

Berlin, July 2 (IANS/WAM) Germany and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and exchanged views on several international issues including the Middle East peace process and the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle here Thursday and stressed the importance of UAE-Germany relations and their mutual cooperation in many fields.

Sheikh Abdullah said he exchanged views with Westerwelle on the latest regional and international developments, including the Middle East peace process and the situation in Afghanistan and Yemen.

Westerwelle said that his talks with Sheikh Abdullah touched on external issues and that both sides agreed on more coordination and exchange of views towards political issues worldwide.

“We focused on two key issues; the conflict in the Middle East and the efforts to bring about peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We agreed that more efforts are needed to find the suitable solutions for supporting the two countries,” Westerwelle said.

The two leaders also signed a treaty on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Sheikh Abdullah said the signing of the avoidance of double taxation treaty was set to open new avenues for commercial and investment cooperation between the two countries.
