UAE for nuclear energy use by all NPT members
May 5th, 2010 - 5:22 pm ICT by IANSNew York, May 5 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has supported the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes by all members of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed, who heads the country’s delegation to the UN, while addressing the general debate of the 2010 Review Conference of the NPT said: “States with nuclear capabilities are obligated to assist non-nuclear states in developing peaceful uses of nuclear energy.”
He added that the non-nuclear states should adhere to comprehensive safeguard measures, cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency and take steps to address any concerns of the international community.
