UAE confirms participation in UN summit
September 19th, 2010 - 12:29 am ICT by IANSNew York, Sep 18 (IANS/WAM) The UAE will participate in a three-day UN summit here Monday to review the Millennium Development Goals, it was announced Saturday.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon recently launched a report prepared by an independent panel set up in 2007 to assess shortcoming of the global community on achieving the development goals.
He called on world leaders Friday to fulfill their pledges to boost development and tackle economic problems.
The UN chief underlined that the world has to raise $20 billion for humanitarian aid this year. “The world could still meet the MDGs (millennium goals endorsed by UN in 2000) by 2015,” he added.
Some 140 heads of states and governments will take part in the event.
