UAE, British varsities to set up joint research centre
April 27th, 2011 - 12:58 am ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, April 26 (IANS/WAM) UAE’s Khalifa University has signed an agreement with the University of Bristol to set up a joint research centre at its campus in Abu Dhabi, it was announced Tuesday.
Both sides have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up the Visual Signal Analysis and Processing (VSAP).
In May 2010, both institutions had signed an agreemnt to cooperate in various fields including image analysis, processing of visual signals, joint use of laboratories and developing common academic programmes.
The VSAP centre will focus on the key areas of research including, integration of image and video signals, detection, classification and follow-up targets in the images and video signals, and transmission of signals.
The centre will address the needs of defence, surveillance and other important areas.
Khalifa University president Tod A. Laursen said: “This agreement will allow us to boost our research profile internationally and it will also promote knowledge sharing and will in turn lead to human capacity building.”
