Two Waterloo, IA men plead guilty of meth conspiracy

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (BNO NEWS) – On Thursday, two Waterloo, Iowa residents pleaded guilty of drug conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, prosecutors announced.

Jamie Smith, 29, and Oscar Ruiz, 30 were members of a large-scale Waterloo meth distribution ring that was shut down by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Smith admitted to have been involved in the distribution of more than three pounds of methamphetamine form January 2005 to August 2009.

Co-defendant Ruiz admitted to have participated in the distribution of more than 10 pounds of the same illegal substance. With these two pleas, there are now 9 member of such criminal organization convicted.

Smith and Ruiz face sentences of at least ten years to life imprisonment. Both will also forfeit $1 million of drug proceeds. Both sentences will be announced shortly.
