Two Rutgers University Student Charged In Tyler Clementi’s Death

Oct 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old college student was a promising musician who was known for his prowess over his favorite instrument, violin. However, the life of this promising young man was cut short when he jumped to his death from the George Washington bridge into the Hudson River after one of his roommate streamed live Internet feed of the teenager getting physical with a man. The death of Tyler Clementi who was a first-year student of Rutgers University in New Jersey has sent shock waves in the campus as well as among the gay rights activists, who have expressed their outrage at the tragic death of the 18-year-old.
After Tyler Clementi’s body was pulled out and then identified on Thursday, a statement was issued by his family members which read that the Clementi family is ‘heartbroken beyond words’ while described the 18-year-old as a ‘fine young man and a distinguished musician.’ As the news of his unfortunate demise spread, students at the Rutgers University as well as gay rights activists held vigils carrying posters in the campus. At the same time, an estimated 15,000 people have joined a group on the popular social-networking Facebook which remembers Tyler Clementi.
In the meanwhile, the two of Tyler Clementi’s fellow students, who allegedly played a role in streaming the video showing him getting physical with a man, have been charged with invasion of privacy. Paula T. Dow, who is the state attorney general’s spokesperson has revealed to the media that the office is in talks with the district prosecutor to evaluate whether the evidences are enough to bring in bias charges against the two accused.
