Washington, April 4 (Xinhua) At least two Pittsburgh police officers were shot dead Saturday and three policemen were wounded after they responded to a domestic dispute in a home, US TV channels said.
According to reports carried by WTAE-TV, WPXI-TV and CNN, a man opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance at a home in the Stanton Heights neighbourhood of the western Pennsylvania city.

No one could reach the officers who were shot, and they remained in the line of fire, police spokeswoman Diane Richards said at a news conference.

The incident began about 7 a.m. (11 a.m. GMT), Richards said.

An hour later, there was a volley of 70 to 80 shots, and an hour after that there were about a dozen more.

Richards said there also was a second person in the home and the police didn’t know what prompted the standoff. Officers had been negotiating with the shooter.

A large number of police officers clad in riot gear were at the scene, and a helicopter was hovering overhead, TV footage showed.
