Lubbock (Texas), Sep 22 (IANS) India’s Pentala Harikrishna, the former World Junior champion, drew both his second and third round games in the SPICE Cup International Invitational chess Tournament and is now tied for fourth place one point behind the leader.In the third round Sunday, Harikrishna drew with Julio Becerra of the US rated 2598 and in the third round he drew with Victor Mikhailevski of Israel, rated 2592.
Harikrishna, the second highest rated player in the field at 2668, now had 1.5 points from three rounds, and trails leader Leonid Kritz by a full point. Kritz has two wins and one draw.
The tournament, which is a category 15 event, is being promoted by Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) and has assembled the strongest field of chess Grandmasters in US round-robin history.
The ten players in the fray are all Grandmasters and play a round robin from Sep 19-28 at the Texas Tech Student Union Building. There are other chess events being held simultaneously but this is the main attraction.
The round-robin tournament is being held in the memory of Grandmaster Samuel Reshevsky.
