Two Lebanese soldiers killed in Israel-Lebanon clash (Lead)
August 3rd, 2010 - 9:12 pm ICT by IANSBeirut, Aug 3 (DPA) Clashes erupted Tuesday between Israeli troops and the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon, killing at least two Lebanese soldiers and wounding two Israelis, a Lebanese security source said.
An Israeli military spokesman said the violence began when Israeli troops in a strip of land between the border fence, and the so-called “blue line” which delineates the actual border, were fired at by Lebanese soldiers.
Israeli media reports added that the Lebanese soldiers first ordered the Israeli troops to move, and opened fire when they did not.
According to sources inside the village of Adissyeh where the clashes started, Israeli helicopters evacuated two “severely wounded Israeli soldiers” from the field.
Hezbollah Television Al Manar reported that one of the wounded, a high-ranking Israeli officer, died later from his injuries.
Lebanese security sources said at least two Lebanese soldiers were killed and two others wounded in the clash. They said an army armoured personnel carrier was set on fire.
