Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan to discuss war on terror
June 7th, 2010 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANSIstanbul, June 7 (IANS) The foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan will meet here Monday to discuss the war on terrorism.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry official told Xinhua Sunday that three foreign ministers would discuss means to promote cooperation among the three countries on security and counterterrorism.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and his Pakistani and Afghan counterparts Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Zalmai Rassoul would meet in Ciragan Palace ahead of a conference on ‘trust-building measures in Asia’, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Turkey maintains traditionally close ties with both Afghanistan and Pakistan, and it has been pushing since 2007 for the two countries to overcome their differences and cooperate against extremists.
Turkey has hosted four meetings between Afghan and Pakistani presidents, accompanied by their military and intelligence chiefs, which have ended with pledges of stepping up cooperation against extremists.
