Turin Shroud to go display in Italy
March 28th, 2010 - 12:14 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 28 (ANI): Turin Shroud, the cloth said to have covered the body of Christ, is set to go on display next month in Italy.
Vatican officials expect around two million people to view the linen sheet bearing the image of Jesus which has captivated the imagination of historians, church chiefs and Catholics for more than 500 years.
It is due to go on display for six weeks after Easter at Turin Cathedral, where it has been kept for more than 500 years, reports The Telegraph.
Vatican officials have stressed the event was “spiritual” and not “religious tourism”.
The shroud was last on display to the public ten years ago for the Church’s Jubilee Millennium celebration.
Details of the display, which will take place at the city’s Cathedral from April 10 to May 23, were announced by Archbishop of Turin, Cardinal Severino Poletto, at a Vatican press conference. (ANI)
