Tsunami alert issued after 7.4-magnitude quake rattles Japan (Lead)
April 7th, 2011 - 10:15 pm ICT by IANSTokyo, April 7 (IANS) A tsunami alert was issued after an undersea quake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted the Miyagi prefecture in northeastern Japan late Thursday. There was no immediate report of damage or casualties, Xinhua reported.
The quake occurred at 23.32 p.m. local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. It has issued a tsunami alert after the quake.
The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 40 km.
The region has been already devastated by a 9-magnitude quake March 11 that left thousands of people dead and missing and crippled a nuclear plant.
