Dubai, Sep 17 (IANS) A nine-year-old Indian schoolboy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was crushed to death when a truck ran over him at a construction site.Ricky Mathew Verghese, a Grade 4 student at the Delhi Private School in Sharjah, was on his way to a tuition class Monday evening when the accident took place.

The driver, carrying a concrete mixer, was reversing and unloading the truck when Ricky came under the wheels. Ricky leaves behind his parents and an elder sister who studies in the same school. His father works in UAE Exchange money exchange and remittance centre.

According to Sharjah police, the driver, also an Indian, was not driving carefully and has been detained.

The driver said he did not hear the child’s cries as the noise of the truck’s engine and the concrete mixer was too loud.
