Truck crash lets loose 17 million bees on highway in Minnesota
May 25th, 2010 - 5:23 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 25 (ANI): Rescue crews were attacked by an angry swarm of bees after a fatal crash of a trailer, that carried about 17 million of the insects.Authorities have revealed that a truck hauling 7,000 bee hives was involved in the four-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 35 near Lakeville, about 35 miles (56km) south of Minneapolis.
Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske said that one person died and another person was airlifted to a hospital.
The hives had roughly 17 million bees and were bound for Bauer Honey in northwestern Minnesota, reports the Telegraph.
While it’s unclear how many bees got loose, several emergency workers were stung.
Crews tried to use fire hoses to get them to fly away.
Roeske said that all lanes were open by Monday evening. (ANI)
