Troops from five nations take part in Kazakhstan drill

Beijing, Sep 22 (IANS) Around 5,000 military personnel from five nations - China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan - took part in an anti-terrorism exercise in Kazakhstan Wednesday.
The troops practised a variety of manoeuvres during the “Peace Mission 2010″ drill, including firepower readiness, suppressing enemies in residential areas and putting reserve forces into battle at the Matybulak military range, Xinhua reported.

The five countries are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The sixth member - Uzbekistan - is not participating.

The forces also conducted a night drill on raiding enemy bases. Over 1,600 tanks and armoured vehicles, 32 fighter planes and 25 helicopters took part.

The drills will end Sep 25.
