Triple amputee completes 3,530-mile run across US
November 13th, 2010 - 1:10 pm ICT by ANILondon, Nov 13 (ANI): Triple amputee Mark Ormrod says he has ‘achieved the impossible’ - by completing a 3,530-mile run across the US.
Mark, 27, led six other former Royal and US Marines on the run.
“I feel I’ve achieved the impossible,” the Sun quoted Ormrod, the first man to lose three limbs in the Afghan conflict, as saying.
Inspired by the hero of hit film Forrest Gump, his team crossed 16 states, four time zones, three deserts and ten mountain ranges in eight weeks.
Ormrod, 27, of Plymouth, Devon, started running a mile a day on his prosthetics before raising it to more than five. The trek, which has raised just over 100,000 pounds for Forces charities, ended at Santa Monica, Los Angeles - the same as in the 1994 movie.
“I feel incredible. I’m tired but I’m very proud,” Ormrod added. (ANI)
