Transit remand for Ahmedabad blast mastermind

Lucknow, Aug 16 (IANS) A top leader of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), arrested for allegedly masterminding serial bombings in Ahmedabad last month, will be taken to Gujarat as a court here Saturday granted a three-day transit remand for him. The court of Lucknow Chief Judicial Magistrate Sapna Singh granted the remand of Mufti Abdul Bashr Islahi, who was arrested from Lucknow’s Moulviganj area by a team of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Gujarat police Saturday morning.

In Ahmedabad, Gujarat Director General of Police P.C. Pande said he was the mastermind behind the 22 serial bombings in Gujarat’s main city July 26, which claimed 53 lives.

He would be soon taken to Ahmedabad for further interrogation.
