Torres reiterates commitment to ‘best club’ in UK - Liverpool
August 4th, 2010 - 12:37 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug.4 (ANI): Describing Liverpool as the “best club” in Britain, Spanish striker Fenando Torres has reiterated his commitment to stay with it under new manager Roy Hodgson.
His statement comes after months of speculation that he was considering leaving Liverpool, the club he joined in 2007, after the disappointments of last season and following a succession of broken promises about forthcoming investment from the club’s hierarchy.
Torres wishes to see Liverpool invest in team-mates of sufficient calibre to help match his ambitions and, though that has yet to materialise, the prospect of forthcoming investment has clearly helped to ease his concerns.
“This is the best club in the country so the targets and expectations are always high,” The Telegraph quoted him as saying on Liverpool’s official website.
He added: “Hopefully we can stay at our level. At Liverpool the aim is to fight for every title. It was difficult last season but we are sure we can improve this season. I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my team-mates. My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.” (ANI)
