Fernando Torres London, Mar 12 (ANI): Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has described his former club, Liverpool, as a “selling club” and claimed that the protracted change of ownership has caused “chaos”.

Torres also said that he was right to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window for 50 million pounds, and added that he had been considering leaving as early as 2009, The Telegraph reports.

“It was a decision I had mulled over for a long time. I had made up my mind a long time before,” he said.

“In the summer in which Xabi Alonso left, I started to wonder. When reinforcements didn’t arrive, I started to wonder if Liverpool was the club its history suggests, or if it was in fact a selling club,” Torres added.

Talking about why he had left Anfield, Torres said that the club was dishonest with him over their plans for the future.

“I knew I was an idol for the Liverpool fans, but it wasn’t the same anymore. The institution was in chaos with the sale. There was all this talk of possible projects. People aren’t honest in the world of football. You can’t say the truth or be clear with people. It’s a business and nobody is anyone’s friend,” he added. (ANI)
