Tornado warnings in effect as ‘large and extremely dangerous’ tornado moves near western Mississippi

VALLEY PARK, MISSISSIPPI (BNO NEWS) — Tornado warnings remain in effect as a ‘large and extremely dangerous’ tornado is moving near through western Mississippi on Saturday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The tornado was first spotted around 11.35 a.m. CDT near Valley Park, an unincorporated community in Issaquena County. As of 12.11 p.m. CDT, the tornado was located about 17 miles west of Midway, moving northeast at 50 mph. “National Weather Service meteorologists and storm spotters were tracking a large and extremely dangerous wedge tornado 17 miles west of Midway moving northeast at 50mph,” the agency said.

It said the tornado is expected to be near Midway by 12.30 p.m. CDT, near Coxburg, Tolarville and Vaughan by 12.35 p.m. CDT, near Ebenezer and Brozville by 12.40 p.m. CDT and near Franklin, Lexington and Pickens by 12.45 p.m. CDT.

The tornado warning is currently in effect for Western Attala County, Southern Holmes County, North Central Madison County and Northeastern Yazoo County. It is set to expire at 1.15 p.m. CDT but may be continued if necessary.

People in the immediate area are urged to take protective action immediately, as this is an extremely dangerous tornado.
