Top US military officer meets Pakistan army chief

Islamabad, Dec 23 (IANS) Chairman of United States joint chiefs of staff Admiral Mike Mullen has met Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani here, a media report said Tuesday. The meeting took place in the backdrop of heightened tension between India and Pakistan following the Mumbai terror attacks.The two officials had an exchange of views Monday on the Pakistan-India situation, war on terror, border situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan and overall security in the region, The News reported.

Admiral Mullen also met the adviser on national security Mehmood Ali Durrani. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.

Mullen, who is on his second visit to Pakistan this month, intends to plead for peace and security, as any escalation would be harmful for the entire region, the newspaper reported.
