Top Pakistani leaders discuss terror situation

Yousuf Raza Gilani Islamabad, June 14 (IANS) Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani have held discussions on the receent spate of terrorist attacks in the country, an official said.

The president’s spokesman, Farhatullah Babar, said the leaders also talked about the recent visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Dawn News reported.

During the discussion on Karzai’s visit, the leaders said Pakistan has again offered its expertise for capacity building of the Afghan security forces after the withdrawal of NATO forces.

Souces, however, said Karzai had declined the offer, saying that Afghanistan would on its own prepare to take the responsibility for the country’s security.

“It is the responsibility of every government to provide security to its country and people. If we have some weaknesses we will try to overcome them by the time of complete withdrawal of (NATO) troops,” the sources quoted Karzai as saying.
