July 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Another gruesome face of escalating drug related violence has hit the state of Mexico. On Saturday, as the police proceeded with its 72-hours unearthing of the hidden mass graves in the outskirts of Monterrey, Mexico’s business capital, it tumbled at around 51 bodies. The digging that was being carried out at Nuevo Leon state began on last Thursday and while initially the number of dead bodies found were reported to be around 38, on Saturday the toll increased to 51.
The state in which the bodies have been found, make it clear that the persons killed were brutally murdered. As per reports, some of the bodies discovered by the police are charred beyond recognition. Some others carry bullet wounds. A state run news agency reports that the police have also found the place where the bodies were presumably burnt in steel drums. Bones reduced to ashes along with blood stains were also found on the ground that the police dug up. The police carried out the digging on a tip from an informant.
The mass grave has once again put in front of the governor of the state the stark reality of the state which has seen a rise in drug related violence during the recent past. Nuevo Leon Governor Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz said to media sources on Saturday that the graves could be connected to drug gang violence. Nuevo Leon attorney general Alejandro Garza y Garza said to media sources that investigators believe that some of the unearthed bodies were buried as recently as 15 days ago. The bodies found are reportedly of males aged between 20 to 50 years.
