Washington, Oct 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The gay community will attempt to create awareness of tolerance on the 11th of October. The day has been set aside as the National Coming Out Day to encourage gays, lesbians and bisexuals to come out with their sexual preference without the fear of being stigmatized against.

The LGBT community has been at the forefront in the struggle to achieve equality for those with other sexual preference other than heterosexuality. They have organized campaigns, lobbied from the high places and gone to court on several occasions to force the world to accept them.

In the United States, the day for the National Coming Out Day is the 12th of October. Politician Robert Eichberg campaigned for the day among the gay community in 1988 after the famous National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1987. The headquarters of the organization is in West Hollywood.

Several activities are often used to mark the day. This year, stars like Ke$ha and others have indicated that they will be part of the celebration of the day.

All over the world, there are celebrations in New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Croatia, Germany and Canada. This is making the day an international event.
