“Of course, we support them (India) in those efforts steps (remaining steps for operationalisation of the Indo-US nuclear deal). The timing of that is going to be up to them, though,” Sean McCormack, Spokesman of the US State Department said on Tuesday, when asked about the status of the nuclear deal.

He said it was up to New Delhi to go on their own to conclude those required steps, where the US too would support India.

On being asked about the resolution moved in the US Congress over strict restrictions on nuclear trade with India, McCormack said that those opinions were ‘important’.

“We want to engage them to be able to reassure them of the importance of this deal, not only for the U.S. Government, but also for our non-proliferation efforts worldwide,” he added.

There are three more steps involved in operationalising the nuclear deal that include, India signing a country specific agreement with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), amendment in the charter of the 45-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) that would facilitate international trade of nuclear fuel supply with India and the ratification of the 123-agreement by the US Congress.
