nurseNew York, Aug 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The iconic lip lock between an unidentified sailor and a nurse that took place on August 14, 1945 that was made immortalized by Alfred Eisenstaedt is remembered by many with fondness. It was the day when the USA emerged the winner in the Second World War and Japan accepted defeat. The photo was later published in the famous Life magazine which made the incident world famous. To commemorate the historic win of the USA and celebrate the VJ day a large 26 feet long statue has been placed at Times Square, the place where the kissing incident took place several decades back.

The nurse who was kissed by the anonymous soldier was later identified as Edith Shain who passed away this year at 91. A big Kiss in ceremony is going to be organized at the place beneath the erected statue. Hundreds of people are likely to assemble at the place to join a mass kiss in event to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Apart from the joint kiss in ceremony a number of events will be held at city halls. Edith Shain would have been extremely happy had she been alive to see the celebration. She wanted that the day would be re enacted in her life time which sadly did not happen.

It is expected that a number of tourists will also participate in the mass kiss in event. The event will be a memorable one for the War World two veterans. A lot of buglers have been hired to play Taps across the place.
