Tibet reopens to tourists next monthApril 3rd, 2008 - 5:13 pm ICT by admin
Lhasa, April 3 (Xinhua) Tibet will reopen to domestic and foreign tourists from May 1, tourism authorities said Thursday. Zhanor, deputy director of the region’s tourism bureau, said all travel agencies would be allowed to arrange tours, and those travelling on their own would also be welcome.
The regional government stopped issuing tourist permits to foreign travellers on March 16 and the bureau recommended Chinese travel organisations postpone tour plans after the March 14 riot in Lhasa.
Zhang Qingli, secretary of the Tibetan committee of the Communist Party of China, said earlier that normal social order should be brought back as soon as possible to facilitate tourist arrivals during the International Labour Day holiday.
Tibet’s “open image and sound environment” would be presented to the visitors, the official said.
