Tibet draws over 6mn tourists this year
September 13th, 2011 - 3:15 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Sep 13 (IANS) China’s Tibet region is experiencing a good tourism season with both arrivals and revenue witnessing a record high in the first eight months of the year.
Tibet received a total of 6.21 million tourists from January to August, which is up 22.1 percent from the same period last year,and the tourism revenue grew 42.7 percent year on year to hit 6.34 billion Yuan (over $993 million), according to an official.
Wang Songping, deputy head of the tourism administration of Tibet, said that more tourists visited Tibet in 2011 to witness the changes in Tibet in the last 60 years, the China Tibet Online reported.
Festival travelling in Tibet, at the same time, has become a trend. Tibet received 906,400 tourists for the seven-day Shoton festival, up 15 percent from last year.
