Tokyo, March 24 (IANS) Three workers have been exposed to 170-180 millisievert of radiation at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, Xinhua reported Thursday.

The affected workers were trying to restore power to the No. 3 reactor of the plant, Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.

Two of the workers were taken to hospital after their legs were contaminated by radioactive substances, it said.

The level of exposure was lower than the maximum limit of 250 millisievert set by the health ministry for workers tackling the ongoing emergency at the Fukushima plant.

Radioactive leaks were detected after a series of explosion and fire at four of the plant’s six reactors.

The reactors’ cooling functions failed after the power supplies to the plant were disrupted following a 9-magnitude quake and an ensuing tsunami in Japan March 11.
