London, Jan. 15 (ANI): The Metropolitan Police is quizzing three men over the killing of Indian origin ‘have-a-go hero’ Sukhwinder Singh, who pursued two men who robbed a 28-year-old woman near Barking station in east London.

Sukhwinder Singh, 31, a father-of-one, was stabbed after chasing thieves who had snatched a woman’s handbag on Saturday.

When he caught up with them a fight broke out and Singh was stabbed. He was taken to the Royal London hospital but later died.

The builder was rushed to the Royal London Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A Met Police spokesman said the three suspects were arrested at approximately 2pm yesterday and were currently in custody at a police station in East London.

“We need to hear from anybody who witnessed the initial robbery, the actual stabbing and anyone who may have seen suspects running away from the Uphall Road area, or perhaps discarding property in the vicinity,” The Sun quoted Detective Ch Inspector Stephen Clayman, as saying.

“I wish to encourage members of the public to come forward and speak to police - no matter how insignificant they may feel their information is. If they have fears regarding speaking to police, I assure them that we can allay those fears,” he added.

Earlier, police described Singh as “brave” and his death as “tragic”. They set up a cordon around the murder scene and officers searched bins for the murder weapon or the discarded stolen bag.

They had also issued descriptions of two suspects who were described as black, aged in their 20s to 30s, and 5′7? to 6′0? in height, The Telegraph reports.

Singh had lived in the UK for around 10 years, the police said. He had cousins in Barking but his child lived in India. (ANI)
