Baghdad, Aug 14 (Xinhua) Three people were killed and nine injured in separate roadside bomb attacks in the volatile northern Iraqi province of Diyala, the police said Thursday. “A police patrol was hit by a bomb in the town of Buhruz, near the provincial capital Baquba late Wednesday, killing two policemen and wounding four others,” an officer said on condition of anonymity.

Four of the wounded policemen were in critical condition, he said, adding that the blast also damaged a police vehicle.

In another incident, a roadside bomb went off overnight in an orchard in the al-Aabet village, about 30 km south of Baquba, killing a woman and injuring three other women, all of one family, the source said.

The attacks came as US troops and Iraqi security forces have mounted major offensive against extremist Sunni and Shia militiamen in Diyala which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border.
