Three killed in Indonesia bridge collapse
November 26th, 2011 - 10:30 pm ICT by IANSJakarta, Nov 26 (IANS) At least three people were killed, 17 seriously injured and scores of others went missing in an Indonesian town after a bridge collapsed Saturday, Xinhua reported.
The bridge in Tenggarong town of East Kalimantan (Borneo) collapsed in the afternoon, causing deaths and injuries to people as several cars and motorcycles plunged into the river, a local disaster management agency official said.
Evacuation was underway to search for scores of people missing in the Mahakan river, said the head of East Kalimantan Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency.
The bridge collapsed at 4.20 p.m. (local time), a busy traffic time.
“There was about 15 cars and several motorcycles on the bridge when the accident happened,” he said.
