Beijing, April 18 (IANS) Gaurav Ghei jumped to tied 29th after carding a three-under 69, as three Indians made the cut while four others failed at the end of the halfway stage of the $ 2.2 million Volvo China Open. Ghei, who was tied 98th overnight after a disastrous opening round of 76, now stands at a total of one-over 145 after firing five birdies against a couple of bogeys at the Beijing CBD International Golf Club Friday.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, who was tied ninth overnight, is still the best-placed Indian at tied 23rd with a total of even-par 144. He, however, had a disappointing outing Friday, scoring a three-over 75.
Indian Masters champion S.S.P. Chowrasia was the third Indian to make the cut. Chowrasia was tied at the 50th spot with one-over 73 in the second round, thereby making a total score of three-over 147 after two days.
However, four other Indians including Shiv Kapur (79), Rahil Gangjee (73), Amandeep Johl (81) and Digvijay Singh (80) will miss the weekend’s action.
Kapur carded a second successive seven-over 79 to end up 14 over after two rounds.
Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera is enjoying one of the best starts to his rookie year when he produced another battling performance and maintained his one-stroke lead by carding 69 that took his total to eight-under 136.
Richard Finch of England and Irishman Damien McGrane shared the second spot after scoring identical 69.
Another Englishman Oliver Wilson, who posted the day’s best score of 66 is a further shot back in fourth place, while defending champion, Markus Brier of Austria is tied for fifth with Jason Knutzon of the United States and England’s Zane Scotland and Simon Griffiths.
