Three die in Brazil blast
October 14th, 2011 - 11:34 am ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, Oct 14 (IANS/EFE) Three people were killed and 13 injured Thursday in an explosion inside a restaurant in downtown Rio de Janeiro, an official said.
While the cause of the blast in the restaurant’s kitchen remains under investigation, firefighters suspect a gas leak, said Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Brazil’s second-largest city said.
The deputy fire chief, Col. Ronaldo Jorge Alcantara, echoed the mayor’s comments and said that despite extensive damage, the structure housing the restaurant was in no danger of collapse.
Two of the dead have been identified as restaurant employees and three of the injured were in serious condition, paramedics said.
