Thieves slide out ATM on watermelon rinds!
January 11th, 2012 - 2:24 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bogota, Jan 11 (IANS/EFE) A gang of thieves entered a store in Colombia’s Barranquilla city and, after subduing a security guard, used watermelon rinds to slide an ATM machine out of the door, police said.
The thieves, numbering at least 10, managed to empty the ATM of its cash and later abandoned it.
Police managed to arrest seven of the alleged thieves, who were in possession of 60 million pesos (around $30,000).
Police said this was the second time that such a robbery occurred. In 2008, in another part of the coastal city, thieves pried an ATM from its base and slid it to a vehicle also using watermelon rinds. On that occasion, they looted around $100,000.
