The Safest cars for 2011

New York, Nov 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has come up with the list of the safest car models for 2011. The list was just released and amongst the manufacturers that made some of the safest cars for 2011 was Subaru which had a model in all the classes that it was involved in. Subaru models were featured in 4 categories and in total it won 5 awards in 2010.

The ranking which was based on five categories had a winner in each category with the other models following in that particular order of decreasing safety. The five categories that the ranking was based on were large, midsize, small, midsize SUVs and small SUVs. Each category had a winner.

The Large category was toped by Buick LaCrosse with Ford Taurus Lincoln MKS and Volvo S80 following in the rank accordingly. The winner for the Midsize category was Audi’s A3 auto. The vehicle was followed in the ranking by Chevrolet Malibu’s 2009 edition. Other vehicles that followed in the order of the ranking was Chrysler Sebring (the 4 door model), Mercedes C class, Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback, VW’s Jetta Sedan, VW’s Passat sedan and Volvo C30.

The small category had Honda Civic’s 4-door models as the safest car for 2011. The models however do not include Si. Kia Soul follow in the order with Nissan Cube, Subaru Impreza and VW Golf (4-door) completing the list. Dodge Journey is rated as the safest car in the Midsize SUV category. Subaru Tribeca follows with Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90 completing the list.

The ranking is completed by the Small SUV category. The Small SUV category has Honda Element as the safest car with Jeep Patriot, Subaru Forester and VM Tiguan completing the list.
