The chicken-looking tree that amuses Cambridgeshire motorists!
February 5th, 2009 - 5:28 pm ICT by ANILondon, February 5 (ANI): A tree that resembles a chicken in its shape has roused the curiosity of some Cambridgeshire motorists, while tickling the funny bone of others.
The animal-shaped tree on a slip road off the A10 near Milton has even led commuters do double take as many were left wondering if it was a prank.
But Bob Widd, an arboriculturalist with tree surgery firm Global Tree Solutions, of Willingham, Cambridgeshire, assured that it was the doing of time and weather that had lend the tree its notable shape.
“It’’s a brilliant shape. At first glance it looks like someone has intentionally shaped it like this for a laugh. But it happened naturally, the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“There are all sorts of reasons why trees grow into the shapes they do. The nutrients in the soil make a difference, as does the light.
“The weather plays a big part too. In the wind-swept Fens the easterly wind tends to blast off the buds on one side of the trees, which means most of the growth takes place on one side.
“In this case the tree underneath is dead. It was probably killed by the ivy that now completely covers it.”
Ely commuter Emma Hampton added: “The first time I saw it, it was quite a surprise, and I found it very funny.” (ANI)
