The Backers Of Kwame Kilpatrick State That His Sentencing Is A Demonstration Of Racial Prejudice

May 26, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Ex-Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, has, even in the past, been at the receiving end of the wrath of the American law. Now, he has been handed a prison term of 5 years by a Michigan court after he was declared to be culpable for infringing an aspect of his probation. The probation was associated with his conviction in a case of lying on oath about a relationship with his chief of staff.
Kilpatrick then had to deal with 10 criminal indictments such as false swearing, using up the city funds illegitimately, positioning obstacles in the course of justice, etc.
Kilpatrick then accepted guiltiness for diminished charges. After he had been in jail for 99 days, he was discharged early. But he was commanded to fork out $1 million to the city of Detroit. However, in the previous month, Judge Groner decreed that Kilpatrick had not satisfied all facets of his probation as he had not mentioned all his belongings.
Judge Groner had stated, rather severely, in his verdict that he believed that Kilpatrick was not adequately penitent, was insufficiently plainspoken and had not exhibited enough humbleness. Judge Groner declared that he felt that Kilpatrick had not comprehended a lesson from his earlier conviction.
However, the case has produced a massive hullabaloo with his endorsers asserting that the verdict of the judge was a manifestation of unjustness and unreasonableness. Kilpatrickās spokesperson, Mike Paul, uttered that the sentencing was anchored in racial bigotry and was also undemocratic as Kilpatrick had not been subjected to evenhanded treatment by the judge. An appeal will be placed in a higher court in the near future.
Kilpatrick, once the beloved of the Democratic Party, has had a mayoral legacy that has been infested by disgraceful developments such as corruption.
