austin-texas Texas, Dec 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Around Christmas time, the US Census Bureau comes out with the population reports of the states, and collaborates the extensive data in the form of lists. And this time around California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois are the most populous states.

Texas’ population increased by around 478,000 people, which is more than any other state during the past year. The fastest-growing states in the year ending July 1 were Wyoming, Utah, Texas and Colorado, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Wednesday. Whereas on the other side of the spectrum were Michigan, Maine and Rhode Island – the three states which actually had a decrease in their population. Though the decrease was just marginal, but it was a decrease all the same, and Michigan’s population was down by 0.33 percent.

Another interesting feature of this list was that many states in the South and the West showed a decline in having new population, which is originally from other states. Florida and Nevada, both states that grew fast earlier in the decade, had more people moving out than moving in. Despite some states having a negative growth rate, the population of the United States grew 0.86 percent during the year to 307 million.
