Terrorists aimed to create worldwide sensation: Mumbai Police (Lead)
December 2nd, 2008 - 11:04 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Mumbai, Dec 2 (IANS) All terrorists involved in the murderous Nov 26 attacks here had come from Pakistan, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor said here Tuesday, adding that they were aiming to create an international sensation. “All the terrorists were from Pakistan. Some of them were trained for a year while others were trained for a year and a half by ex-armymen,” Gafoor told reporters here.
The only terrorist caught alive and in police custody, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab (21), is a Pakistani and he is cooperating with the police in the investigations, he said.
“He has not yet been formally arrested,” he said.
“They (terrorists) did not have any local assistance. So far, we have not found any woman involved in the conspiracy. Their strategy was to take upper positions and fire from there,” Gafoor added.
Asked if India’s most wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim funded the terrorists, he said: “Till now nothing of that sort has come out in the investigation. But we are investigating the attacks from all possible angles.”
Gafoor said the terrorists - nine killed and one captured - were on a suicide mission intended to carry out maximum deaths, especially of foreigners, and create a worldwide sensation.
The locations they targeted in south Mumbai in a small radius of around five km were crowded places with a large number of foreigners, he added.
