Teresa Lewis Executed For Murdering Her Husband And Stepson

teresaSep 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 41 year old woman Teresa Lewis was executed last night at around 9:13 p.m. at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt. Teresa Lewis pleaded guilty of murdering her husband Julian Clifton Lewis Jr., 51, and stepson, Charles J. Lewis, 25, in 2002. The Virginia woman hired two men Rodney Fuller, 27, and Matthew Shallenberger, 29, and lured them with sex, money and also promised a share of the $250,000 insurance payment for which she killed her husband. The media reports that she is the first woman to be executed in United States in five years and the first woman to be executed in Virginia in nearly 100 years.

The hired assassins were sentenced to lifetime imprisonment and one of them committed suicide in jail in 2006. The supporters and family members of Teresa Lewis were present in the jail during the time of her execution. Before her execution Teresa Lewis said that she wants her step-daughter Kathy Clifton to know that she loves her and she is “sorry” for what she did. Teresa Lewis case created lot of controversies as the attorney of the convict said that her IQ was 72 and she was mentally disabled. However, the judge gave her death sentences as they thought she was the mastermind of the whole crime.

The Virginian Governor, Bob McDonnell previously criticized the death sentence by the US Supreme Court. However, later he rejected near about 7,300 appeals to stop the execution after Teresa Lewis confessed her crime. The media sources report that before hours of his execution Teresa Lewis met with her family, her supporters and also her spiritual advisor. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran has criticized US Government of double standards as they allowed a death sentence of a mentally disabled woman.
