‘TEPCO to pay 1m yen compensation per household near Japan’s troubled nuke plant’

Tokyo, Apr 15 (ANI): Japanese Industry Minister Banri Kaieda has said the Tokyo Electric Power Corporation is expected to pay a compensation of one million yen to each household located within 30 kilometers of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was affected by the March 11 earthquake-cum-tsunami.

The Kyodo news agency quoted Kaieda as saying that the operator of the troubled plant is expected to start handing out the provisional damages payments as early as this month.

Roughly 48,000 households are within the radius, where people have been ordered to evacuate or stay indoors, the report said.

Meanwhile, TEPCO has said that its President Masataka Shimizu would hold

a press conference today on the issue. (ANI)
